SKILLS BEYOND BORDERS: GHANA AND JAPAN LAUNCH AUTO CONNECT TO EMPOWER YOUTH IN AUTOMOTIVE TRAINING
Accra witnessed a groundbreaking initiative on Thursday 12th March, 2026 with the official launch of Auto Connect, a collaborative programme between Ghana and Japan designed to equip young Ghanaians with practical skills in the automotive industry. Under the inspiring theme “Skills Beyond Borders”, the programme seeks to bridge industries and generations by offering hands-on training that prepares the youth for the rapidly evolving automotive sector.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo emphasized that Auto Connect is the product of a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the Green Auto Factory Aichi. He noted that the collaboration is aimed at strengthening apprenticeship systems and ensuring that Ghanaian youth gain direct exposure to industry-standard practices.
He indicated that the automotive industry is changing at a pace never seen before. The programme had therefore been initiated to ensure that young people are not left behind, but rather positioned to lead with skills that meet global standards, the Minister remarked.

The initiative comes at a crucial time when the automotive industry worldwide is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by technological innovation, sustainability demands, and new mobility solutions. By combining Ghana’s commitment to youth development with Japan’s expertise in advanced automobile technology, Auto Connect has been embedded into the National Apprenticeship Programme to deliver training that is both practical and future-oriented.
Participants will benefit from hands-on industry training in modern automobile technologies and exposure to international best practices, fostering cross-cultural learning adding that beyond technical skills, the programme embodies a vision of empowerment preparing Ghana’s youth not only for jobs but for leadership in shaping the future of mobility and also learning to speak the Japanese language. It reflects a shared belief that collaboration across borders can unlock opportunities and drive sustainable development.
The launch of Auto Connect marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s youth empowerment agenda, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to equipping its young citizens with the tools to thrive in a dynamic global economy. With “skills beyond borders” as its guiding principle, the programme stands as a beacon of hope and innovation for the next generation of Ghanaian automotive professionals.
