
MINISTER FOR YOUTH DEVELOMENT, IOM RECEIVE 145 RETURNEES FROM LIBYA
The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment (MYDE), Hon. George Opare-Addo, together with the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mrs. Fatou Diallo Ndiaye on 20th March, 2025 received 145 Ghanaian returnees from Libya at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Their return was facilitated under the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA), a joint initiative between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the European Union. The programme was designed to support the voluntary return and sustainable reintegration of migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa who are in vulnerable situations.
Speaking at the arrival ceremony, Hon. Opare-Addo commended the returnees for their courage and resilience, assuring them of the government’s commitment to ensuring their peaceful resettlement and successful reintegration into society.
“This government remains committed to the welfare of every Ghanaian, both home and abroad. We will continue to work with our development partners to ensure that returnees are provided with the necessary support to rebuild their lives,” the Minister stated.
Out of the 145 returnees, 139 were males and 6 are females. They were received as part of the ongoing efforts by the Government of Ghana, in partnership with the IOM, to provide dignified and voluntary return pathways for Ghanaian nationals facing distress abroad.
The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders will continue to provide psychosocial support, skills training, and livelihood assistance to ensure the smooth reintegration of the returnees into their communities.
